The backlash starting in France ?

Seems a bit harsh bring kids into the row just for political points , but you do have to question the parents for not allowing them to eat pork

My view is -

Eat what the fuck you like, prey to who the fuck you like, and dress how the fuck you want, but don't tell me what I can and can't do and if you live in the UK behave in a manner that is expected of a UK citizen.

Simple.

"If the parents don't want their kids to eat pork, for any reason, then what the fuck has it got to do with anyone else?"

Well, if they then moan that there's no fucking non-pork option, they've made it someone else's business haven't they?

Has anyone just suggested a packed lunch yet? If only the whole Middle East crisis could be sorted out as simply as this little fracas.

Backward fucking muslims and jews that still think that Pork is from a dirty animal because there was no refrigeration years ago....A Chicken will go off maybe a day after a Pig.....Difference is that a Chicken gets eaten in a day, but a Pig takes longer....Perhaps jews and muslims should look at how similar they are and perhaps the bunch of backwards reading cunts may realise they basically follow the same beliefs......To an extent

quote
"“It’s the impact on the children that has been the hardest,” says Tabbakhe. “My four-year-old daughter is too young to understand that she doesn’t eat pork. It’s not something she’s aware of and it’s not something we talk about. What am I supposed to tell her now? We tried to subtly tell her we didn’t eat pork at home. But she thought ‘pork’ was a type of dessert. She said, ‘Yes, I do eat it, it’s delicious."

So what was all the other stuff about logic and government then?

I don't live in Canada, but I grew up there and lived in Toronto, you can rock the boat there a fair bit and be fine with the state, as you can in England where I live now and in the States where I also lived for a couple years. That is exactly my point, Western democracies aren't suppose do anything if you think or believe differently, they must wait for you to do something and even still we get a fair bit of leeway there. You can be racist in your head all you want, it's when you say something in certain forum or act on it that the state should have the right to step in.

So continuing that maybe principled but not naive as we have maintained various forms of this kind of state for a fwhile.

To disadvantage a group because the state can say their beliefs are illogical, even if it is just the cost of lunches, is a step away from that system of government and a wrong one, in my opinion.

As said, how hard is to provide two options for lunch, the stubborn refusal to do so is calculated step in one political direction. Hence the slope.

Canada, you said:

"When we let the state decide what is illogical, I think it is a slippery slope."

That's what made me smile.

Admirable, sir/madam. But maybe naïve?

Enjoy Canada. Only been twice. Toronto was lovely. Super-clean, great food, and welcoming to many peoples. As long as you didn't rock the boat.

I remember being on a family holiday in France in the 90s. My (then veggie) sister told the waiter that she didn't eat meat (there was no veggie option on the menu). "No problem", he said "we'll make you a salad".

The salad came out with a slab of ham on the top.

How do you get founding a state on logic from anything I said?
How did you get to founding a state at all?

I did not say anything about logic in the working of the state, just that I do not believe that having any state define what you think as right or wrong (logical or illogical) is the right direction to be going.

A lot of you are clearly not completely reading what is, admittedly, a long article.
This has only been implemented by mayors in a couple of small towns. It is not a national policy .
Also, it is clear that the dinner ladies make sure that the children of religious extremists, both Muslim and Jewish, are given extra veg to ensure they don't go hungry.
I'm with my current hosts on this, and would encourage them to spread this policy regionally, although I suspect Muslim mayors, which there are many, are unlikely to follow suit.
One thing I do know though is that we won't be seeing the wooly minded liberal milksops who run local education in the UK taking this up.

Re: Eat Pork or go without
Ironsof Canada, I read EXACTLY what you posted.

Sorry I missed out the "illogical" bit. But talking about the "state" and "logic", though, is a wholly different thing.

That needs a better brain than I - or you, may I humbly suggest - to define logic when it comes to governance and laws. States aren't founded by logic. They are founded on politics. Which is basically arguments based on little empirical "fact".

Don't care to eat pork in a French school? Let them eat cake!

The pork thing is quite strong.

I have known a couple of ex-Muslims who won't eat it, but will drink and take the piss out of Muhammed.

I don't know what kind of aversion treatment their parents gave them.

"When was the last time you went to a canteen and there was only one thing to eat"?

At work, must've been 7 or 8 years ago.

All they had left after a dinnertime down the pub, was pizza slices with a load of beetroot on top.

Never again.
